Late 20th-Century

Elvis Priestly, known as "the king of rock and roll" is an icon for the world's music revolution. His style was mainly gospel, country, and R&B. After the second world war, there was a lot of racial tension, but many feel that Elvis Priestly brought race together, as he took on and popularized the style of what used to be only "African American music." Soon following Elvis, the Beetles became one of the world's most popular rock bands. The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Animals were also extremely popular in this time frame. 50's and 60's classic rock is still quite popular among people who were alive during that period.

People love to dance, and by the 1970's a new type of music emerged. Disco music was more faced-paced and could really be danced to. The Bee Gees and The Village People were the most popular groups of the 1970's as they pumped out some of the best new and danceable music people had ever heard. Progressive rock and punk rock also emerged during the 70's. By the 1980's, new wave and synthpop styles of music became popular. At the same time, rock became harder, hence the name "hard rock." Bands like Def Leppard, Van Halen, and Aerosmith rocked hard, while another type of rock called "glam rock" were more rebellious and sexual. The singers would wear tons of makeup and hairspray. Thrash Metal also emerged in this era, with bands such as Metallica, that are still popular today.
